Exterior Painting

Our Four-Step Exterior Painting Process
Exterior house painting is a multi-step process that requires expertise and the right tools. While many DIY shows may make it look simple, using improper products or skipping essential steps can damage your property. At Charley Remodeling, our Four-Step Exterior Painting Process is designed to protect your home and deliver beautiful, lasting results.
-
Scraping and Minor Wood Repair
-
We remove any loose, peeling, or bubbling paint. Our team uses knives and wire brushes to scrape away problem areas, ensuring a smooth surface. We also handle minor wood repairs, so your exterior is ready for painting. As always, we make sure to clean up after ourselves.
-
Priming
Next, we apply a premium bonding primer to all exposed surfaces, ensuring the new paint or stain adheres properly. We prime wood, metal, water stains, rust, and new carpentry. For plywood surfaces, we use a specialty primer to minimize weather-related cracking. -
Caulking and Glazing
We caulk seams, cracks, nail holes, and joints, replacing any loose glazing to create a tight seal. This step prevents air leaks and moisture from entering your home. We use siliconized latex caulk for durability around exterior entrances, structural joints, and wood windows. -
Painting or Staining
Finally, we apply your selected paint or stain. We will discuss your options, including the pros and cons of different paints and stains. Call us for a free quote.
Interior Painting
Choosing Colors at Charley Remodeling, we understand the impact that color can have on a space. It can set the mood and make rooms appear larger with light colors or cozier with darker shades. The appearance of color changes depending on lighting conditions, whether it's natural sunlight or artificial lighting.
We always recommend you using color samples to ensure you’ll love the final look.
Preparation
Before we begin, our painting contractors will fully prepare your home and safeguard all your belongings.
We’ll cover floors with drop cloths, builder’s paper, or plastic, securing the edges with tape. Furniture will be moved away from walls and protected with plastic or drop cloths. We’ll remove switch plates, outlet covers, window blinds/shades, and protect light fixtures and window glass with plastic or painter’s tape to ensure everything stays clean and safe.
General Repairs
Our team is skilled in a variety of repairs that may be necessary before painting begins, all of which will be outlined in your estimate. This can include sheetrock repair, scraping, taping, texturing, sanding, wallpaper removal, and caulking cracks along door jambs, baseboards, and crown molding.
Painting
We use only high-quality materials from brands you trust. Paint is applied by brush and roller wherever possible for a clean, professional finish. There may be a need for Kilnz Primer first if you are going from a dark to a light color.
For ceilings with acoustic texture (popcorn ceilings), we’ll use a spray application to achieve the best results.
Clean Up at the end of each day, we thoroughly clean the work area, removing all tools, supplies, and trash. Unless it's a big job. We will ask to leave some of our tools and product at the job site (home).
We ensure trash is disposed of properly off-site and won’t overload your home’s trash can. We’ll also return your furniture to its original position, rehang blinds and shades, and replace all switch plates and outlet covers.
